Welcome to Redhill & Reigate U3A Family History Group 4
We aim to build our family tree(s), based on proven evidence and discover the real lives of our ancestors, sharing skills and knowledge in a friendly environment.
We’ve put together this short introduction to explain how our group works and provide some essential pieces of information about our group.
Meeting times and location
- Family History Group 4 meets on the second Tuesday of the month from 10:00am to midday.
- We meet in the meeting room at the St Joseph’s Church, 122 Ladbroke Rd, Redhill RH1 1LF.
- St Joseph’s Church has good facilities for the group, including cafeteria, toilets, and wi-fi access to the internet.
- Free parking is available in the church car park.
- To cover the hire cost of the room, all members makes an annual contribution of £12, reviewed each year.
- We aim to have around 12 members. Attendance at meetings fluctuates but there’s usually at least 6/7 people and often more.
- Meetings generally comprise of a short talk from one of the members, or an invited speaker, followed by problem-solving sessions where the members will split into smaller groups guided by one of the more experienced members. Occasional visits to places of interest for family history research are sometimes organised.
- Family History has been transformed by technology, and the digitisation of so many records, accessible on-line: familiarity with using and easy access to a computer is essential for your research. We use laptops / tablets at the monthly meetings.
- The level of experience in tracing family history varies across the group from those who have spent many years on their research, both on-line and in the archives, through to complete beginners. Should you need help getting started or you are just looking for some tips, then one of our experienced members can provide one on one assistance.
